IDCS has invited international Design Icons Barbara Barry and Thomas Pheasant to join our prestigious Jury Panel together with Editor in Chief of Media Group, Marc Almagro and some of Asia’s leading Designers Colin Seah, Founder of Ministry of Design and IDCS’ Vice President Amy Picanco and IDCS President Cameron Woo to judge the DEA 2023 entry submissions from Fri 1st September 2023 – Sun 17th September 2023.
Shortlisted winners will be notified from 9th – 13th October 2023 by email. The Jury panel will be responsible for judging each entry submission based on a score out of ten (10) with average scores of 6-7/10 receiving a Bronze award, 7-8/10 a Silver award and 8-10/10 a Gold award. Entries with the highest score per category will be announced as the winner of the category and will be revealed at the DEA 2023 Awards Gala Evening on Thu 30 November 2023, which we are planning for an in-person event barring any unexpected events
Barbara Barry
Founder-Director, Barbara Barry Incorporated
Internationally renowned designer Barbara Barry is known for her streamlined interiors and elegant home furnishings. Her quiet and pared down approach supports her philosophy that living simply with the highest quality is the true definition of luxury.

Colin Seah
Founder-Director, Ministry of Design
Architecturally trained in the US and licensed in Singapore, Colin Seah honed his sensibilities working for the likes of Rem Koolhaas and Daniel Libeskind. He also spent 4 years at the National University of Singapore’s Department of Architecture researching design pedagogy and serving as design critic.
As MOD’s Founder and Director of Design, Colin has been named Designer of the Year by International Design Awards USA 2010, and is a two-time recipient of Singapore’s highest design accolade, the President’s Design Award. He is also a three-time Grand Prize Winner of the Gold Key Award, the highest international hospitality accolade, named Hong Kong Perspective’s ’40 under 40 architects’ and Marcus Corporation Foundation Prize 2007 ‘emerging architect with potential for greatness’ and recognized as ”Rising Star in Architecture” by Monocle.
Colin Seah has been a juror for the Inaugural Dezeen Awards, a Global Advisor for leading surfaces manufacturer Cosentino and invited by the Singapore Tourism Board to redefine Singapore as a destination for 2020 and beyond.
Thomas Pheasant
Founder-Director, Thomas Pheasant
Thomas Pheasant is internationally recognized for his more than 40 years of creating interiors and furniture. With personal residences in Washington, D.C., and Paris, he focuses his creativity on residential and commercial projects throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Current projects include the historic Blair House – the President’s Guest House on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the White House.
Celebrated for his modern vision of classical design his diverse accomplishments have included the 1997 Andrew Martin International Designer of the Year Award, the distinction by Architectural Digest US in 2005 as a Dean of American Design, the 2015 John Russell Pope Award by the Institute of Classical Architecture, and the 2016 Design Icon Award for his contributions to the design industry. He continues to be widely published in the most prestigious architectural and interior design magazines around the world.
His book, Simply Serene: The New Luxury for Modern Interiors, published by Rizzoli, brings to life the serenity and classic imprint that are Pheasant’s signature. His furniture design collections include, Thomas Pheasant Collection for Baker, Thomas Pheasant Collection for McGuire and his own collection of limited edition and unique pieces, Thomas Pheasant STUDIO.
Marc Almagro
Editor-in-Chief, Media Group Pte Ltd
Marc Almagro has edited and managed – to date – over 25 well-recognised business luxury lifestyle, and special interest magazines, including start-up, relaunch, contract and franchise titles. He has co-written and edited books, including Once Upon A Tang, Save the Date, and Polytechnic Education in Singapore.
He has taught Marketing for Designers as an adjunct lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore, and Comparative Literature as a part-time lecturer at the University of the East in the Philippines.
A theatre, design, and arts enthusiast, Marc plays an active role in the design community. He has covered the Golden Pin Design Award (2017—2019) as media partner representative, and has served twice as panel discussion moderator at MAISON&OBJET ASIA (2016), foreign media judge at ASIA TALENTS Bangkok (2014, 2015), judge at International Furniture Fair Singapore, and Final Year Project critic/commentator at Glasgow School of Arts (Singapore).
The Editor-in-Chief at Media Group Pte Ltd, Marc hosts a podcast series, The Portfolio Podcast, and a video series, Secret Singapore, for the media company.
He is an active volunteer worker at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital, and previously with Action for AIDS Singapore.
Amy Picanço
Vice President, IDCS
Founder & Director, Aym Design
Amy spent several years working across the Asia-Pacific region before settling down in Singapore to establish Aym Design, an Interior Architecture and Design Studio.
Since the launch in late 2013, her focus has been on creating highly efficient planning solutions and branded spaces which enhance the user experience. Amy believes there is an intrinsic link between physical space and the user identity, and aims to bring this to life through all her projects.
She has an honest and transparent approach to her process, and actively encourages a collaborative working method with her clients. The aim is to educate and guide her clients seamlessly through every project.
Cameron Woo
President, IDCS
Principal, Cameron Woo Design
Cameron Woo, founder of Cameron Woo Design (CWD), is celebrated as one of the world’s top interior designers. His firm has been featured in the interior design bible, Andrew Martin Interior Design Review, the Oscars of the interior design world, and has won multiple awards from the International Property Awards, London for World’s Best Interior Design, Asia Pacific’s Best Interior Design and for Singapore.
CWD’s clientele include many of the world’s leading property developers such as Kerry Properties, Swire Properties, Capitaland Residential, Ho Bee Group and Mulpha International.
Cameron Woo has been invited to speak at international interior design conferences such as 100% Design, China International Interior Design Cultural Festival, One to One with World Class Designers and Hong Kong International Lighting Fair.
CWD has collaborated with some of the world’s largest consumer and prestige brands such as Dulux, Louis Vuitton and Philips Lighting. Cameron Woo is a panellist on Akzonobel’s Colour Futures and has also been the guest judge and mentor on the hit international interior design reality television show The Apartment TV.
Judging Criteria
- Design Brief – How well the Design solution responds to and meets the Client’s design brief and functional requirements.
- Innovation and Creativity – What innovation or creativity does the design solution provide that is original in concept and excellent in execution.
- Space Plan/Layout – How well the layout plan meets the function brief, taking into consideration GFA constraints and circulation flow.
- Aesthetics – What was the design intent and how well did the end result vary from the initial design intent. Was the design aesthetic achieved based on the delivered design solution?
- Project Schedule – Was the project completed on time and to budget?
